Schaumburg High School is proud to present its 2016 production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. Millie Dilmount is a small town girl with dreams of making it in the big city, who arrives in New York with a very “modern” plan of getting a secretarial job and marrying her boss. Her plans are quickly derailed, however, by a good-natured but seemingly idle guy, a wealthy girl intent on living like “the other half”, and the scheming owner of a women’s boarding house. This jazz-age musical comedy features lively songs, brilliant tap-dancing, and a talented cast & crew. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, April 21-23, at 7PM. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students/seniors. For ticket reservations, or for more information, contact SHSBoxOffice@students.d211.org, or call 224-653-4404.
One student-acted Broadway musical is performed each spring. Auditions are open to all Schaumburg students, but a majority of the cast is chosen from students enrolled in choral music classes. Rehearsals are usually after school and some evenings, preparing for two performances that require about a two-month block of time. Any student may work on set, makeup and other production activities. The pit orchestra is chosen from interested students in both band and orchestra. Cast size varies from production to production. Past musicals have included “Hello Dolly,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Cabaret.”
